ThermiVA

Losing elasticity and lubrication in the vaginal area can lead to decreased sexual satisfaction and increased irritation. At Valley Urogynecology Associates in Phoenix, Arizona, the pelvic reconstruction experts perform minimally invasive ThermiVA® treatments using radiofrequency to restore blood flow and healthy collagen to the pelvic tissues. Call Valley Urogynecology Associates or book an appointment online today to schedule a treatment consultation.

What is ThermiVA?

ThermiVA is referred to as a vaginal revitalization procedure because it restores blood flow and collagen to your vaginal and vulvar tissues. The treatment is noninvasive and quick, using gentle radiofrequency waves to heat your tissues and stimulate collagen repair. Collagen is an important protein that keeps your skin firm.

Unlike other treatments for similar issues, ThermiVA doesn’t require you to take any hormones. Because radiofrequency is such a gentle energy, it doesn’t damage the skin or cause lasting irritation. Additionally, there is no downtime with ThermiVA, so you can complete your day as you normally would after leaving Valley Urogynecology Associates.

What does ThermiVA treat?

ThermiVA treats some of the changes that happen leading up to and during menopause. Due to the slowed production of the hormones estrogen and progesterone, your pelvic organs and tissues undergo some adjustments.

One possible condition that can develop as the result of the loss of estrogen is called genitourinary syndrome of menopause or vaginal atrophy. The condition can cause symptoms that ThermiVA can treat, including:

  • Vaginal dryness
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections
  • Pale, smooth, or shiny skin on the vulva

Your provider evaluates you before your treatment to make sure you’re a good candidate for ThermiVA and that it can meet your expectations. The treatment increases your vagina’s natural lubrication, improves your comfort, and elevates blood supply in the area for more sexual satisfaction.

What should I expect during a ThermiVA treatment?

During your ThermiVA procedure at Valley Urogynecology Associates, the team uses the long ThermiVA handpiece to complete the treatment. The handpiece is about half an inch wide and is designed for as much comfort as possible against the contours of the vaginal canal.

A small metal electrode on the tip of the ThermiVA handpiece delivers the radiofrequency deep into your tissues. The treatment is painless, but you might experience a warming sensation from the energy.

The healing time after ThermiVa is minimal and you can even resume sexual intercourse and other activities right away.

If you experience symptoms of vaginal atrophy and would like to learn more about ThermiVA, call Valley Urogynecology Associates or book an appointment online today.
